I had grabbed the book version of this story from Goodwill a little while ago and he did like that, but he LOVES this movie. I had originally rented it from the library after I found it browsing the Children's DVDs and I am glad that I did! I purchased it last night from Target since the library was taking its sweet time fulfilling my request for it even though I returned it on Tuesday! It was a good purchase, though, because I know we will be getting our money's worth & then some with this one.
B knows what's going to happen he's seen it so many times... but he still wants to watch it over and over and over again. Even more than Thomas! Last night I got home after a marathon grocery shopping trip [i loathe grocery shopping!!!] and gave B an ice cream sandwich [his favorite dessert] since he had eaten a good dinner!!! He spotted the movie and he wanted to watch it instead of eating his ice cream sandwich...!!!! That is a devoted fan if you ask me!!
If your child hasn't seen this movie yet, I would warn you there are a few parts that are darker... there is a scary nightmare train that of course causes a bump in the Little Engine's journey, but of course this little sweet train makes it over the mountain in the end and everything is good again. I was hesitant at first about letting B watch such a thing but I cannot shield him from everything and the real world isn't all happy and everyone isn't all nice... and importantly... they overcome the nightmare train, and the bullies. All in all, this is a cute film for little ones and isn't as annoying to watch as something like Thomas... I can say I've seen it a handful of times and I'm not totally sick of it yet... although I do have a strong feeling it won't matter if I do grow tired of it, B will always want to watch it... and that's OK with me. :)
And just as the train reaches the top of the mountain, B always says... "'Gain!" ... he wants to watch it all over again. Hard to tell the kid no!!!
Do your little precious angels have any favorite movies yet???
I know what I'll be watching this evening... "Little Engine Could" !!
I've never heard of it, but I will definitely be checking it out. Jack loves trains! One of his favorite shows is Chuggington and I got him a DVD for Christmas. It's way better than Thomas (which we, thankfully, don't watch!). Some of our other favorite shows are Clifford, Curious George, and Super Why. I love all 4 because they are perfect for this age and even I like them! :) Jack actually just watched his first full length movie on Christmas Eve and I was surprised he actually sat through the whole thing- The Polar Express. He loved it! Maybe we can try watching Cars or Toy Story next! When I was younger, I used to babysit a 2 year old boy all the time. He was obsessed with Scooby Doo and it was all we watched. I think Jack is a bit young for it, but I'm sure we'll be watching it soon enough!
ReplyDeleteOne show I've managed to never let Jack get a glimpse of is Barney. I know there'll be things he wants to watch that I'm sick of or don't like, but thankfully this isn't one of them. I just can't stand that purple dinosaur! Must be from my days of working in a daycare. :)
I'll look into this. I bet Ryu would love it since it's about a train. Ryu's fav. movie of all time is Cars. He doesn't really like Cars 2 so much, but I bet he'll enjoy this. Thanks for sharing. I will film Ryu once I get this movie to see what he thinks of it, heh.
ReplyDeleteAva is obsessed with Dora, so we record all the full length episodes sbe replay then for her. Last week when she was really sick she watched Dora's christmas carol six times in a row!!!
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of this Anika, but if your guy likes it better than Thomas than it is worth a trip to amazon for it. I hope you had a great Christmas and your little man had a ball!
ReplyDelete(I LOATHE the grocery store also! I thought I was the only one!)
Asher is with Jack and LOVES Chuggington! It really isn't a bad show {annoyingness-wise} and B might love it too since he likes trains. Ash has a couple shows he adores and always asks for "more, more" when they are over. I have a serious couch potato on my hands here! ha!
