Update before the busy weekend!

Happy Friday everyone!!!

I am so glad that it's Friday. I know it was a short week but it didn't feel like it!
Our systems at work have been failing throughout the past 3 days and it totally sucks. It's really difficult to do your job when your computer is failing constantly!!!! FAIL!

Anyway, B is getting so strong and becoming such a little man!!! I can't believe how he's becoming so big in such a small amount of time. I sit back and think sometimes... wow, he's only been out of my womb for 6.5 months and he's already come this far!!! It's really mind-blowing when you think about it. Isn't it???? It's amazing. Life is so amazing!!!!

B has made strides the past couple of days in sitting up. I have been propping him up with the boppy pillow a little but he usually just face plants {softly} and then 'crawls' off... but lately he's been sitting up without the pillow and leaning on his sweet little arms.. but since last night he's been sitting up much more straight and it's SO adorable. !!!! Mommy was a bad Mommy and went to a movie without B last night and evidently that's when this all really began. I felt a tinge of guilt when Patrick told me about it.. I had missed it!!!! But he was awake this morning before I left for work and I got to see it for myself!!! He was definitely trying to sit up straight without holding himself up with his arms. BIG BOY!!!

He is doing great with solids...he loves carrots & prunes!!!! I agree with the carrots, but prunes?? He's a champ.

We attempted to take some "6 month" pictures with my Mom as the photographer the past weekend, but it didn't work out because the location that we chose was way too buggy. I think we tried to pump out 15 pics & in just that time I think I got bit at least 8 times. Luckily, I don't think B got bit at all... which is surprising since he is sooooooooooo sweet. ;-)

I am trying to figure out how to implement more food into his diet... aka more solids but he is doing fine for now as far as I can tell. He gets about 3 servings of solid foods a day and still doing breastmilk, of course. He has started going to bed earlier and not taking a night bottle, but that seems to still be working alright as he is a SUPER SLEEPER! He sleeps through the night all the time and we are so thankful for that!!!!

I really want to look into making his food and wondering how much that would actually save... money-wise. Anyone have any ideas on that??? Factoring in the cost of the food processor, organic foods vs normal foods, etc?? The storage units needed.... and how actually time-consuming is it??? No matter what, I am definitely going to be making some homemade applesauce for B soon. I want to try some myself too!!

This weekend my little engaged Sister is coming into town with her FiancĂ©. Wow, that sounds so new and awesome. :-) I am so happy for them. They are coming in real late tonight and leaving Sun morning/afternoon. It's a haul for that small amount of time, but they want to nail down the venue location for their wedding next year. We are going to try to get some "engagement pictures" done tomorrow morning too..downtown. I can't wait to shoot down there, I have never done it!!!! Yay for taking pictures!

We are also going to be out with B tomorrow... I have to admit we've kind of been homebodies a lot since he was born, so wish us luck on our big day out!!!

I'll leave y'all with some pics from the past week or so. I'm sure I'll snap lots more this weekend!!!

Hope you all have a great weekend!!!

4th of July book from Grandma Mary

 Happy 6 Months, B!!!
B was amazed with these blocks!

We found this shirt at Children's Place and Daddy realized he has one just like it!
My 2 loves in matching shirts. Priceless.

How could you say no to this face??

One of the many failed pics from the attempted photoshoot. Damn you, mosquitoes!

 I ♥♥♥ this smile!▲

Sitting up like a big boy...sort of.

  3. First off, hooray for having a super sleeper! That's awesome! Secondly, I absolutely LOVE that pic of B and Patrick in their matching shirts. Way too cute. Well B is so stinking cute, it doesn't matter what he wears. :) I do think that making your own baby food saves money in the long run. But I already had a food processor so that saved money too. And you can use ice cube trays for freezing the food, which is what I have been doing lately. Once they're frozen, just pop them out and store them in a freezer bag labeled with the contents and date. I pull out 2 cubes of each food that I need for the following day. Very easy! I usually make one fruit and one veggie on weekends for the upcoming week. I do it while Jack is napping or after he's gone to bed so I don't cut into our time together. I feel like it's something I can do for him that tasty and healthy, same as breastfeeding. It costs less than $10 to make a week's worth of food. Not bad! There's also a lot more variety and options when making your own food. Can you tell I'm really into it? LOL I just enjoy making it for him, much more than I thought I would. It's not a huge chore like I expected it would be. But I definitely know how hard it is to be a full-time working mama and it does take time to peel, dice, cook, and puree. Do what you can without losing your sanity! :)

  4. Yay for great sleeping! Isn't that just priceless? I think all of those sleepless nights are to make us that much more grateful when they finally do sleep well! :o)

As far as food goes...I totally agree with Rene. I've been making Asher's food and love it. I already owned a food processor, so that wasn't an expense for me either. The organic frozen veggies aren't much more expensive at all, so that's no big deal. The fresh veggies are a little more pricey, so you get so much baby food servings out of a few pieces that the total isn't too bad.

I don't make my own food when it isn't cost effective. For example, a lot of times organic pears can be expensive since you need quite a few, so I just buy those from Gerber.

Definitely just do what you feel you have time for. I don't think the prepackaged food is any less good for them...just more expensive for me in the long run. Since I'm a SAHM I have the time and am trying to save money wherever I can!

Good luck -- let us know what you end up doing! :o)

  5. I LOVE the six month picture with the blocks!! And carrots and prunes - Lily loves them too! I think the prunes are sweet and that's why they like them so much.
We make our own baby food here. I think it's fun :) And is definitely something you could do on the weekends. I do, when someone is here to watch Lily, and I just make a whole bunch and have a stash in the freezer. I already had a food processor so no cost there, and I just use ice cube trays to freeze (I wrap it in saran wrap and then foil over night) then transfer that to a freezer storage bag. I think cost wise it's great - I did 3 sweet potatoes and got a whole ice cube tray out of it, plus 3 nights that didn't fit in the tray. That's cheap! (1 cube is like one ounce I've heard)
But I do not make my own prunes because they do not freeze well. And I agree that some things are just easier and more cost effective to buy already made. I enjoy making homemade baby food though! And this site is awesome: http://www.wholesomebabyfoo.dcom/
